Advanced Practice Nurses

Advanced Practice Nurses are registered nurses (RN) with advanced education, clinical experience, and licensure to practice as an advanced practice nurse in the state of Illinois. Their training and experience enables them to diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, either independently or as part of the health care team. At Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Advance Practice Nurses work in collaborative practice with surgeons to provide high-quality, cost-effective, individualized care for the lifespan of patient's special needs.

Advanced Practice Nurses focus on health maintenance, disease prevention, counseling, and patient education in a wide variety of settings. They are also involved in research endeavors in the areas of nursing practice and orthopaedics. All of the Advanced Practice Nurses at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush have published multiple research studies, written journal articles and/or book chapters, and lectured nationally in the areas of nursing and orthopaedics. All of the Advanced Practice Nurses have Master's degrees in nursing, and have acquired extensive academic and clinical experience before becoming licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse. These nurses have completed an intensive preceptorship under the direct supervision of a physician or an experienced advanced practice nurse, as well as education in the various sciences related to health care and nursing theory. The Advanced Practice Nurses at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush also hold faculty positions at the Rush University College of Nursing.

The Advanced Practice Nurses at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush are licensed as either Certified Nurse Practitioners (CNP) or Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), or have licensure as both.
