Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush physicians, led by program director Dr. Brian Cole, were honored to host the 3rd annual Chicago Sports Summit this week. The event featured honest conversation by female Olympians Dara Torres, Kendall Coyne, Lindsay Tarpley and Diane Simpson regarding gender inequalities and #MeToo experiences. It also showcased a discussion of mutual challenges faced by general managers Michael Reinsdorf (Chicago Bulls), Rick Hahn (Chicago White Sox), Nelson Rodriguez (Chicago Fire) and Shawn Hunter (Chicago Dogs). Another group of experts discussed athletes’ nutrition, sports performance and injury prevention, including David Strickland (Glanbia Nutrition), Julie O’Connell (Athletico) and Dr. Brian Cole. The Summit also gave former NFL and NHL pros an opportunity to talk about safety, including concussion, and what can be done to make these sports safer. Matt Forte (former Chicago Bear), Jack O’Callahan (U.S. Olympian and former NHL player), and Mike Adamle (former Chicago Bear) weighed in on this hot topic.
Each year, proceeds from the Chicago Sports Summit are donated to the Chicago Sports Summit Foundation. This year the Foundation will make contributions to After School Matters, Girls in the Game and sports medicine research at Rush University Medical Center.
Special thanks to title sponsor Athletico, gold sponsor Optimum Nutrition/Glanbia, Silver sponsor Leopardo and all of the other companies and individuals who made this event – and the donations – possible.
