Dr. Joel Williams, an orthopedic trauma and hip preservation specialist at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, recently received the Howard Rosen Award from the AO Foundation. This honor is given to one faculty member per AO course for teaching abilities and overall enthusiasm.
The AO Foundation (originally named for Swiss study group Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen) is a medically guided, not-for-profit organization led by an international group of surgeons specializing in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Founded in 1958 by 13 visionary surgeons, AO today fosters one of the most extensive networks of an estimated 20,000 surgeons, operating room personnel, and scientists in over 100 countries. The Foundation, dedicated to improving the care of people with musculoskeletal injuries through research, development and education, promotes the most current techniques used in orthopedic trauma care.
The AO Foundation regularly holds worldwide courses for orthopedic surgeons and other health professionals. Coursework include hands on experience using the latest implants, lectures from expert surgeons and discussions.
