On the second annual National Biomechanics Day, students from Washington Irving Elementary School in Oak Park, IL, visited the motion analysis lab in the Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush building to learn hands-on about applying STEM to both everyday life and careers. They made prosthetic hands out of ordinary craft supplies and tried out sensors measuring their force when they walked, jumped or danced across them. Antonia Zafariou, PhD and Director of the Motion Analysis Lab, coordinated these activities with help from other Rush staff. The students also visited Rush University Medical Center where they learned about heart dissection.
