The Midwest Orthopaedics at RUSH (MOR) physical therapy residency program recently earned accreditation status from the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE). This accreditation means that the national board has approved the program’s education and mentorship, and it meets the national standards for physical therapy residency training.
“We are thrilled to be recognized nationally and to continue to train the next generation of excellent, patient-centered physical therapy clinicians,” explains Robert LeBeau, PT, ScD, Director of MOR Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency.
The MOR orthopedic physical therapy residency program is the newest physical therapy training center in Chicago, the fourth site to achieve this distinction in Chicago, and the sixth in Illinois. MOR representatives applied for the accreditation in 2022 and had a full site review in late 2023. After a two-day site visit and review of the physical therapy residency program, the board graded full accreditation to continue under the approval of the American Physical Therapy Association.
The curriculum is an in-person, 12-month full-time experience specialized in orthopedic physical therapy practice, clinical reasoning, teaching, and service. This mentored clinical experience enhances a therapist’s ability to evaluate, treat, and manage a wide variety of non- and post-operative conditions. The program includes coursework including medical imaging, screening, patient management, orthopedic movement-based therapy, manual therapy, and pain science. Residents have opportunities to work closely with nationally recognized leaders in orthopedic medicine and physical therapy.
