Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) introduces the orthopedic physical therapy residency program. The curriculum is an in-person, 12-month full-time experience specialized in orthopedic physical therapy practice, clinical reasoning, teaching, and service. The next cohort is scheduled to begin in Summer, 2025.
This mentored clinical experience will enhance the therapist’s ability to evaluate, treat, and manage a wide variety of non- and post-operative conditions. The program includes didactic coursework from medical imaging, screening, patient management, orthopedic movement-based therapy, manual therapy, and pain science. Clinical reasoning is developed through 1:1 mentored practice to improve clinical skills and patient management strategies. Additionally, the residents have opportunities to work closely with nationally recognized leaders in orthopedic medicine and physical therapy.
Successful residency completion will prepare the therapists for the OCS board certification examination and scholarly presentation at local and national conferences. This residency aims to prepare therapists to become clinical experts and leaders in the field of orthopedics.
The residency program provides opportunities to train with and be mentored by board-certified clinical specialists and fellowship-trained clinicians. Working closely with the Rush University Medical School and College of Health Sciences, the residents will get additional training with anatomists, radiologists, biomechanists, and orthopedic medical experts. The program offers over 300 hours of educational opportunities and 150 hours of direct mentored clinical practice. The residents will have opportunities to participate in clinical research, sports-related projects, and community outreach activities.
Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush is a nationally acclaimed provider of surgical and non-operative treatment. The division of therapy provides an excellent learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities and a diverse patient population with high variability of orthopedic and pain conditions. The resident will have many opportunities for working with the medical team providing the best possible care for their patients.
