Biography

Dr. Julia Bruene is a dedicated sports medicine physician specializing in the management of acute and chronic orthopedic injuries, concussion care, and the specific needs of female, combat, and special needs athletes. Her expertise extends to the comprehensive care of athletes, ensuring both immediate and long-term well-being. 

Dr. Bruene earned her bachelor's degree in health planning and administration, with a minor in chemistry, magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006. She then completed her medical degree at Rush University Medical College in Chicago, graduating in the top 20 percent of her class. Dr. Bruene further advanced her training as chief resident in the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Park Ridge, IL, before completing a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Rush University Medical Center. 

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast and recreational runner, Dr. Bruene understands the importance of physical well-being for athletes. She advocates for exercise as a form of medicine, helping patients achieve their wellness goals. Dr. Bruene is actively involved in the sports community, providing medical coverage for major Chicago-area sporting events such as the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Her extensive experience includes team coverage for local high school, college, and professional teams, and she serves as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox (MLB), Chicago Bulls (NBA), DePaul University, and Trinity International University. 

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Bruene enjoys singing at weddings and is a passionate supporter of Chicago sports teams.
