Dr. Monica Kogan First to Use Technology for Leg Lengthening
The pediatric orthopedic program at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) is an area of excellence focused on the care of musculoskeletal problems in newborns, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. This specialty combines research and clinical expertise to provide the highest-quality, most innovative orthopedic care in a family-centered way to meet the unique needs of children, adolescents, and their families.
Dr. Monica Kogan, pediatric orthopedic surgeon at MOR, leads an experienced orthopedics team specializing in conditions ranging from congenital disabilities to complex neuromuscular diseases. Dr. Kogan is the most experienced orthopedic surgeon in Chicago for leg-lengthening procedures for young people who have uneven leg length due to congenital abnormalities, major fractures, or disease (such as cancer). Her team uses the Precice™ internal leg-lengthening device powered by magnets to gradually lengthen the bone. All lengthening occurs inside the limb, which means less pain, no open wounds, no external brace, and a reduced chance of infection. The convenient hand-held device can be used at home.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Kogan is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Pediatric Orthopedics Department at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago.
