Dr. Joel C. Williams is a renowned specialist in complex fracture care, post-traumatic deformity, pelvis and acetabular surgery, and complex hip surgery at Rush University Medical Center. With seven years of dedicated training, Dr. Williams brings extensive expertise to his role.
A native of Michigan, Dr. Williams graduated from the Michigan State University Honors Program before attending Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where he was awarded a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship. During this fellowship, he focused on basic science research.
Dr. Williams completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. His residency included a research fellowship supported by a grant from the Orthopaedic Trauma Association to study fracture healing. Additionally, he received a traveling fellowship from the AO Trauma Foundation, allowing him to study orthopedic traumatology in Chur, Switzerland, under Dr. Christoph Sommer.
Following residency, Dr. Williams undertook a trauma fellowship at UC Davis, specializing in the management of acute fractures, polytrauma, nonunions, and malunions. He further honed his skills in Seattle, WA, working with Keith Mayo, M.D., and Tania Ferguson, M.D., where he expanded his expertise in trauma, nonunion, malunion, and complex hip surgery techniques.
Dr. Williams is actively involved in professional organizations, including the Emerging Leaders Program with the American Orthopaedic Association and is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and AO Trauma North America. He has presented at numerous national conferences and has contributed to leading publications such as Orthopedics, Injury (International Journal of the Care of the Injured), and The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.
In his personal time, Dr. Williams enjoys skiing and running.
