Residency Application Process

The program accepts five residents per year from medical schools across the country. Please note that we have a supplemental essay requirement. Additionally, please continue to check the website and Instagram for updates regarding the residency application process.

Application Requirements and Deadline

Required items submitted through the ERAS program:

  • Photograph
  • Personal statement
  • Dean’s Letter
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Minimum of 3 letters of recommendation (maximum of 4). We encourage the use of the AOA Standardized Letter of Recommendation
  • United States Medical Licensing Exam Step 1 (USMLE) results

Recommended

Students will be asked to submit a written response to the prompt:

“What accomplishment are you most proud of and why?” (250-word limit). Highly recommended for those who signal. Please send your response as a separate document to gabriella_j_chavez@rush.edu in PDF format and name the file ‘Rush letter’ followed by last name, and first name (ex. Rush Letter – Smith, John). We will begin accepting responses on September 5, 2024 and they will be due on September 26, 2024. Please note that this response will be used during the screening process for interview invitations.”

Interviews

Invitations will be sent out according to the proposed protocol put forth by the Council of Orthopaedic Residency Directors (CORD) Program as follows:

  • All Residency programs will send out interview offers according to the proposed CORD protocol
  • Each applicant will then have 48 hours to respond to the program. If an applicant declines an interview or there is no response in the designated time frame, the program may extend an invitation to another applicant. There will be no set timeline for the second or any subsequent waves of interview offers
  • Interviews will be held in person in January 2025 for both rotators and non-rotators. The exact dates will be published at a later time.

Resident Selection

The final selection and ranking is conducted by the Residency Selection Committee, chaired by Dr. Alan Blank. Residents are selected based on their academic accomplishments and personal character.
