Resident Life

Chicago is a lively and vibrant city that is home to over 2.7 million people. As the third largest metropolis in the U.S., Chicago has everything one could ask for from professional sports, comedy, performing arts, museums, architecture, music, and amazing food. Nothing is better than summers in Chicago when residents can enjoy over 29 miles of beach in the city. Residents at Rush live in many neighborhoods throughout the city including Wicker Park, West Loop, Bucktown, South Loop, Old Town, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park, and Streeterville.

Orthopedic residents can look forward to a wide variety of enriching events designed to enhance their clinical skills, professional development, and social life. These include hands-on surgical workshops, case study presentations, and interdisciplinary conferences, where they can engage with leading experts in the field. Residents can also look forward to a number of social events that are planned each year.

Black Jacket Ceremony

New interns are welcomed into the program at a welcome dinner and drinks celebration in June by coating them with their new Rush Orthopaedics jackets.

Department of Orthopaedics Annual Welcome BBQ

Dr. Kogan and Dr. Fernandez kindly invite all faculty, residents, and fellows to a welcome BBQ each summer. This fun day of good food, drink, family, and friends is a great kick-off to the year.

Department of Orthopaedics Golf Outing

Residents and faculty head out in the early summer for a day of golfing each year at a local course.

Senior Thesis Day & Graduation

After thesis day each year, the Department hosts a graduation dinner for families and friends of all residents in celebration of the graduating class.

Journal Clubs

Each month, a member of our faculty kindly hosts the residents for a night to discuss several articles in their field. Past events have been held out on Lake Michigan on a boat, at faculty residences, and at many of the great local restaurants.
